Sækyi’s “LOST IN AMERICA” is a Deep and Relevant Must-Listen

Sækyi’s “LOST IN AMERICA” is a hard hitting song with a slightly grungy beat that grabs your attention in the first second you press play. The beginning notes of the song, to put it simply, sound like war. Which is fitting for such a powerful and social justice-focused song. And the instrumental is almost reminiscent of the intense, slightly funky music you’d hear in those old kungfu movies.

The artist behind the song clearly has a story to tell based on his roots and lived experiences. This is defined through both the lyrics and the African background vocals sampled throughout the song. Sækyi is a Ghanaian-American alt-hiphop artist who has made a name for himself through his intimate story telling & undeniable sound. Sækyi has been called “the Virginia underground’s best kept secret”, and has received co-signs from both Lyrical Lemonade & Daily Chiefers.

This title track is from his debut album of the same name, in partnership with GENIUS. Although it dropped summer of 2025, this is a perfect example of timeless music, as both the subject matter and sonic vibes are extremely relevant. “LOST IN AMERICA” has clear rap elements, but is skirting those lines of being a genre-less song. Sækyi speaks on topics ranging from being trapped in the capitalistic system of the United States, to the facade of social media and clout chasing.

“Real niggas that’s what you pretend to be, for likes on the gram or potential tweets.”

He offers a perspective that’s both unique and relatable. Many of us are familiar with people who inflate their motion on social media and those who think likes and follows are what brings value to life. We’ve truly lost the plot of what being a “real nigga” actually is. Social media has clouded a lot of people’s judgement on what genuineness and integrity actually look like, as well as how they’re measured.

And in this current state of the world, many everyday folks can relate to Sækyi’s sentiments towards capitalism and the predatory systems of the U.S. that are known for taking advantage.

“This the land of the free. Only if you give the devil 80% of your dream.”

And what a profound statement this specific line is. There’s this particular… dream that the U.S. is all cookies and cream. That all you have to do is work hard and pull yourself up by the bootstraps and you can have cute Starbucks drinks and drive hellcats and such things. When the reality is that there’s so much sacrifice that goes into this. Time. Money. Health. Loved Ones. The list goes on. So thank you for this reminder Sækyi.

This artist is someone who wants you to hear their message loud and clear (the song’s opening line is “lost in a stolen land”). “LOST IN AMERICA” has punchy metaphors and a dark instrumental that all tie in and compliment the deep themes of the song. It’s clear that Sækyi has solidified his place at the forefront of the Virginia underground music scene. Give the song a play below and let it be the inspiration to give the rest of the album a listen.
